South Shields
South Shields is just along the coast near Newcastle. The beaches and coves nearby have lovely golden sands.
There is a more commercial end of the seafront with a large amusement park. There are a lot of restuarants within easy walking distance and further around the coast there is an unusual restuarant and bar which can be reached by way of a lift within the building which goes down to beach level. The views are outstanding.
We found a little island just off the coast where seagulls and cormorants were nesting.
We were located a few minutes walk from the seafront, next to a marvellous park with a minutre train, boating lake and marvellous little cafe. Watching people exercise and play with their dogs, children playing in the sunshine and the swan boats on the lake was very relaxing.
A visit to Beamish Living Museum was an amazing day out too. The way that history is being preserved here is noteworthy. A ride on an old tram then a slighly more modern bus was a treat. The village cafe served excellent food and the local Bobby even got in on the act with the runner deciding that Steve may need to be nobbled.
We have really enjoyed staying here and travelling up and down the coast to see some amazing beaches and villages.
