Wallasea Island

This area is one of many islands that make up part of Essex.  The island is bordered by the River Crouch and the Paddlesham Creek and Paddlesham Pool.  Most of the isalnd is an RSPB nature reserve and many wading birds are found here.

We eat out a lot while we were here, finding lovely cafes and local pubs on the island.  The weather was windy and overcast and we did not find many opportunities for photos.

Near to Southend and the longest pier in England, the area is mainly farmland growing wheat and the fields and landscape are flat making the area cold and windy in winter.

We had intended to catch the train down Southend Pier, however, there is no longer much at the end of the pier and even the cafe which has replaced the film set where Jimmy and Jamie filmed their Friday Night Feast was closed.  We were disappointed to learn that even the show is staged and the guests are actors with filming taking place over more than one day.  So overall we found Southend to be not to our taste!
