Yorkshire Moors
Lake Semerwater, Wenslydale is the largest Glacial lake in North Yorkshire. It features in paintings by Turner.
Such a quiet place, ideal for the gentler watersports or a spot of trout fishing. It is very high up in the moors, reached by very narrow winding lanes with no neighbours other than a few houses further up the lane and lots of sheep fromlocal farms.
The water level is very low and rainfall has not been heavy enough to fill the lake for some time, therefore large sand banks have formed at the far end of the lake.
The beach like shores of the car park and spots along the shore nearby make it an ideal place for smaller camper vans and tents to pitch. All charges (which are reasonable) are paid to the local farm.
